This study examines how universities in sub-Saharan Africa engage with the African diaspora living in the United States for the purposes of enhancing opportunities for students and strengthening institutional capacity. Three main areas that are discussed in the report are financial, intellectual, and professional collaboration. In order to understand how diaspora philanthropy can work to address challenges through innovation, filling gaps that states and markets cannot, and building collaborations and support for organizations, leaders in university resource development and fundraising as well as leaders of philanthropy infrastructure organizations were interviewed.
